The haematology research laboratory in the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, LKS Faculty of Medicine at HKU focuses on the study of pathogenesis, disease modelling and therapeutic development for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), one of the most lethal cancers worldwide. Our laboratory set up research platforms including transgenic zebrafish library, mouse model of leukaemia and patient derived xenografts and high throughput in vitro drug sensitivity testing of primary patient samples arising from a tissue bank of more than 3000 AML cases. Through these integrative networks, we have begun to understand the diversity, pathogenetic pathways and potential vulnerabilities of AML and related myeloid malignancies and generate information pertinent to the development of novel therapeutic agents.
